Ostróda is called the pearl of Western Masuria. Situated on Lake Drwęckie, on the Drwęca River and along the Elbląg Canal route, the town delights with the charm of its waters and the surrounding forests. Ostróda is an important hub of waterways – from here you can sail all the way to the Baltic Sea by two routes (the Drwęca River or the Elbląg Canal). The town's main attractions are located near the boulevard on Lake Drwęckie. Along the shore there is a beautiful promenade with a pier. By the lake there is also an amphitheatre where various events take place, as well as Collis Park with attractions for children. Ostróda still has a 14th-century Teutonic castle, the former seat of the komtur. In 1807, during one of his military campaigns, Napoleon Bonaparte himself used Ostróda Castle as his residence for two months. From Ostróda you can take an approximately 2.5-hour cruise on the ships of Żegluga Ostródzko-Elbląska to Stare Jabłonki or Miłomłyn, or a one-hour sightseeing cruise on Lake Drwęckie. There is also an 800 m long water-ski cable on Lake Drwęckie – an attraction perfect for extreme sports enthusiasts.
