Near the village of Grunwald there is a place associated with a remarkable event in Poland's history.
Here, on 15 July 1410, in one of the largest battles of medieval Europe, the Polish-Lithuanian forces scored a historic victory over the forces of the Teutonic Order. The battle is today commemorated by a monument towering over the fields, at the foot of which is the Battle Museum. Every anniversary, at this historic site, large costumed battle reenactments are held, featuring thousands of knights (knightly brotherhoods from across Europe) and tens of thousands of tourists.
